Impact domains for SRA ICT TNG
Information and communication technology (ICT) is transforming the world. It has deep impact on our everyday life and on society at large. It changes communication, how we communicate with each other, how we make business, how governments interact with its citizens, how we are informing ourselves. It is transforming operations of industries; media, gaming, transportation, banking, is transformed. And yet, what we have seen this is only the beginning!
From this it is obvious, we argue, that the main impact of new ICT is reaching far beyond the ICT sector itself. We also expect that next generation ICT and our research to have impact outside the academic sector and outside the ICT industry. It is a goal that our research should lead to new solutions, innovative technology, and competences leading to significant scientific and societal impact in the long-term.
In order to emphasize this, and to guide our work within the different thematic areas in this direction, we have defined three impact domains for the project.
Intelligent transportation
is on developing new intelligent and innovative services relating to different modes of transport and traffic management, enabling users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated, and smarter use of transport networks.
Smart energy
is on integrating new communication technology and computer processing into the power grid and systems, from power plants and wind farms all the way to the consumers of electricity in homes and businesses.
Quality of life
is the convergence of the digital revolution with health, healthcare, living, and society, empowering us to better track, manage, and improve our own and our family's health, live better, more productive lives, and improve society.
